Step-by-Step Guide to Making a Fröbel Star String of Lights
Step 1: Folding Fröbel Stars
Fold the paper strips in half and lay them before you so they interlock as shown in the picture. Start with the top strip, fold it downwards, the right one to the left, the bottom one upwards, and the last one to the left again by sliding it into the slot under the first strip. Pull it tight and verify that the star holds together.
Step 2: Adding Flat Points
Take the top left strip and fold it parallel downwards to form a triangle. Slide the loose end under the neighboring slot and work your way around the star clockwise. Note: Always use the shorter left strip.
Step 3: Forming Three-Dimensional Points
Fold one strip down and twist another to slide it into the slot. Cutting the ends at an angle can facilitate threading. It is crucial that the strip reappears on the inside; otherwise, it cannot be pulled through.
Pull the strip through until a three-dimensional point is formed. Work your way counterclockwise around the star until all points are shaped.
Step 4: Turn and Repeat with Stars
Once you have created 4 flat and 4 three-dimensional points, turn the star over and repeat the steps for the back side.
Your Fröbel star should ultimately have 8 flat and 8 three-dimensional points.
Step 5: Attaching Fröbel Stars
Use a hole punch to make holes in the middle of each star that match the size of the lights, so you can easily attach them.
Carefully insert the lights through the holes. Use a skewer to shape the hole if necessary.
Finally, carefully trim any excess strips to maintain the points.
After completing this final step, your Fröbel stars are ready to adorn your string of lights and give your home a festive flair!
