The Christmas season is just around the corner and what could be better than decorating your own four walls with a homemade chain of light of Froebel stars? These traditionally popular paper stars are not only only a magical decoration, but also a wonderful way to give your home a cozy and festive atmosphere. In these instructions, you will learn how to fold Fröbel stars and assemble them into a sparkling chain of light . Your Christmas decorations are guaranteed to be unique!

Step-by-step instructions for making a Froebel starchain of light

Step 1: Folding the Fröbel stars

You can choose different colored paper strips for the stars to make them easier to handle. Don't worry, folding will go much faster by the third or fourth star at the latest! If the instructions on paper strips are not clear enough, the following steps will help you.

Fold the paper strips in half and place them in front of you so that they interlock, as shown in the picture. Start with the top strip and fold it down, the right one to the left, the bottom one up and the last one to the left again by sliding it into the flap under the first strip. Pull it tight and then check that the star holds together.

Step 2: Add flat prongs

Take the top left-hand strip and fold it parallel and downwards to form a triangle. Slide the loose end under the adjacent flap and work your way clockwise around the star. Caution: Always use the shorter left-hand strip.

Step 3: Form three-dimensional spikes

Fold one strip down and turn another to push it into the flap. Cutting the ends at an angle can make threading easier. It is important that the strip reappears on the inside, otherwise it cannot be pulled through.

To help, you can push a piece of strip through from below. Then the actual strip will find its correct path. In my example, the strip with the dots serves as an aid so that the strip with the moose comes out in the right place.

Pull the strip through until a three-dimensional prong is created. Work your way around the star in an anti-clockwise direction until you have formed all the points.

Step 4: Rotate the stars and repeat

Once you have created 4 flat and 4 three-dimensional points, turn the star over and repeat the steps for the back.

Your Fröbel star should end up with 8 flat and 8 three-dimensional points.

Step 5: Attach the Fröbel stars

Use a hole punch to punch a hole in the center of each star. Make sure that it matches the size of the lights so that you can attach them easily.

Carefully guide the lights through the holes. If necessary, you can use a skewer to make the hole the right shape.

Finally, carefully remove any protruding strips to preserve the prongs.

After this final step, your Fröbel stars are ready to adorn your chain of light and give your home a festive flair!
