Preparation - Using templates and materials
Download and cut out the template First, print out our free template for Fridolin the dachshund. The template contains all the parts you need: A = body, B = head and front foot, C = bottom, back foot and tail, D = ear and E = Christmas hat. Now carefully cut out all these parts with scissors.
transfer and cut out - photo cardboard and coloured paper Take one template at a time. transfer template B, C and D with a pencil onto brown photo card. Be careful when cutting out so that all parts fit exactly.
Shade the edges for more dimension To give the dachshund more depth and dimension, gently press your finger on a ink pads and trace the edges of the photo cardboard. This gives the elements an appealing shading effect.
Continue with coloured paper transfer template A and E to red coloured paper. Here too, precise cutting is the key to a successful result.
Assembly - The dachshund takes shape
Folding the body - the accordion technique Now it's time for the body! Fold the body (part A) into an accordion shape by folding strips approx. 1 cm wide. When you make one fold, you have to make the next one in the opposite direction so that the body looks like an accordion. Then glue the ends with VBS handicraft glue to the front and back of the dachshund's body.
Cut and attach the felt strips Cut two strips felt, each 1 cm wide. Cut one piece approx. 5 cm long (for the hat) and two pieces approx. 9 cm long (for the body). Gently round off the corners of these strips. Glue the 5 cm strip to the edge of the Santa hat and the 9 cm strips to the body.
Finishing touches - personalization and stability
Add details - eyes and pompoms To give your dachshund Fridolin a face, glue a wiggly eye to his head. You can use small pompoms to add additional unique accents. Also use handicraft glue, to attach these parts securely.
Handles with wooden spatulas Turn the dachshund over and apply some handicraft glue to the legs. Place two wooden spatulas on top.
Leave to dry - time for patience Allow all parts to dry sufficiently before handling them further. This step is particularly important to prevent the parts from falling off and to ensure that everything stays in place.
