The Essentials: Materials
The star of your creations is, of course, the Creative Concrete. There are special sizes available, such as the 1.5kg bucket to the 5kg bucket. This specialized concrete is easier to handle than traditional cement, making it ideal for fine work. Thanks to its low dust development, you can even work in your kitchen.
Your Craft Tools
For your concrete project, you will need:
Mixing the Concrete
Use the kitchen scale to weigh 300g of concrete and add water. The exact amount of water can be found on the packaging of the concrete – usually, you mix in a ratio of 10 parts concrete to 1.5 parts water. Stir the mixture thoroughly with the spatula. Be careful not to add more water right away, even if the mixture seems dry at first.
Pouring Concrete – How to Do It
Before pouring the concrete, prepare the molds by greasing them with cooking oil to facilitate later release. Pour the concrete into the molds and use the spatula to evenly distribute the mixture.
The Ideal Concrete Amount
For example, large molds need about 300g of concrete, while smaller molds need less. It makes sense to mix small quantities in stages. The faster-drying concrete allows for flexibility, ensuring large amounts don't go unused.
Let the Concrete Dry
Gently tap the filled molds a few times against the surface. This allows air bubbles to rise to the surface, resulting in a more even outcome. The concrete poured into the molds needs about two hours to dry for small molds. Take your time – patience pays off!
After the drying time, the molds can be easily released. With silicone molds, the demolding is very easy; however, with acrylic molds, you will need some patience and perhaps an old knife to loosen the edges.
Our tip: Patience. Just wait a little longer. Essentially, you can tell when the concrete is ready to be released by its light gray color.
Stay Clean: The Cleaning
Clean your work tools promptly to prevent concrete residues from hardening. Quick cleaning rounds make working with concrete a relaxing activity.
Creative Concrete Art: Decoration
Once your concrete object is fully dried, you can decorate it as desired. Whether you use chalk paint or metallic paint – your objects will become real eye-catchers.
