Step-by-step instructions: macramé-Wall decoration
Preparations:
First cut 10 cords, each 3 meters long. Take the first string, double it and attach it to a stick with a loop, as shown in the following picture. Repeat this with the other cords.
<img src="/tn.php?id=160326&width=400&height=300&templang=en" alt="macramé-wall hanging Knotting 1" width="400" height="300" title="macramé Knot 1"> <img src="/tn.php?id=160328&width=300&height=400&rotate=90&templang=en" alt="macramé-wall hanging Knot 2" width="400" height="300" title="macramé Knot 2">
Step 1: The "basic knot"
For this wall hanging you need only a knot! Start with the first four cords from the left.
<img src="/tn.php?id=160332&width=400&height=300&templang=en" alt="macramé-wall hanging Knot 4" width="400" height="300" title="macramé Knot 4">
Pass the right string UNDER the two middle ones and then OVER the leftmost one.
<img src="/tn.php?id=160334&width=400&height=300&templang=en" alt="macramé-wall hanging Knot 5" width="400" height="300" title="macramé Knot 5">
Now bring the left string OVER the middle ones and THROUGH the space to the right one.
<img src="/tn.php?id=160336&width=400&height=300&templang=en" alt="macramé-wall hanging Knot 6" width="400" height="300" title="macramé Knot 6">
Pull tight - half of the knot is already done.
<img src="/tn.php?id=160338&width=400&height=300&templang=en" alt="macramé-wall hanging Knot 7" width="400" height="300" title="macramé Knot 7">
Now the other way round: Left cord UNDER the middle cord and OVER the right cord..
<img src="/tn.php?id=160340&width=400&height=300&templang=en" alt="macramé-wall hanging Knot 8" width="400" height="300" title="macramé Knot 8">
..right cord OVER the middle one and through the loop to the left one. Pull tight - done! Repeat this knot one more time with the same four cords underneath.
<img src="/tn.php?id=160342&width=400&height=300&templang=en" alt="macramé-wall hanging Knotting 9" width="400" height="300" title="macramé Knot 9">
Step 2: Knot the pattern
Take the next four cords and do the same to the right end.
Leave the first two cords of the next row out and start with the next four. This creates a checkerboard pattern.
<img src="/tn.php?id=160348&width=400&height=300&templang=en" alt="macramé-wall hanging Knot 12" width="400" height="300" title="macramé Knot 12">
Now repeat the first two rows and simply leave out two cords in the next row. I'm sure you'll find it easy to tie the knot!
<img src="/tn.php?id=160350&width=400&height=300&templang=en" alt="macramé-wall hanging Knotting 13" width="400" height="300" title="macramé Knot 13" style="float: left;">
Change the pattern slightly: leave four cords free on the left and right, then six, and then use only the middle four.
The result is a tapered pattern.

Repeat this to the full width and then let it taper again. The knotted part is finished!
<img src="/tn.php?id=160360&width=400&height=300&rotate=90&templang=en" alt="macramé-wall hanging Knot 18" width="300" height="400" title="macramé Knot 18">
Step 3: Finishing
For a nice finish, cut the threads 30 cm below the last knot.
<img src="/tn.php?id=160362&width=400&height=533&templang=en" alt="macramé-wall hanging Knotting 19" width="400" height="533" title="macramé Knot 19">
Make a simple knot about 1 cm before the end of each thread so that everything falls nicely.
Step 4: Dip dye style color
"Dip dye" is a technique in which only part of the material is dyed. Prepare your workspace with foil and stir the textile paint into water. Test with a piece of string until you like the color mixture. Hang your tapestry in the paint and leave it to soak for 5-10 minutes.

Pull it out, let it drain and lay it out to dry.
As it dries, the dye will soak further into the fibers - creating beautiful color gradients!
