Instructions No. 3266
Difficulty: Beginner
Working time: 1 hour
Step 1: Preparing the glasses
Before you really get started, clean the tealight jars thoroughly with washing-up liquid. The surface should be dry, clean and free of dust and grease so that the paint adheres optimally. This preparatory work guarantees a beautiful end result.
Step 2: Paint the template and contours
Print out our free craft template with the bunny faces and cut them out carefully. Attach the template to the inside of the glass with a little adhesive tape . Now you can transfer the bunny lines to the outside of the glass using the Marabu Porcelain & Glass Painter, a special contour pen for glass and porcelain.
Step 3: Fix the colors
Leave the painted glasses to dry for 4 hours. Then place the glasses in a cold oven. Heat to 160 °C and "bake" the paint for 30 minutes. This heat treatment ensures that the paint is dishwasher-safe (up to 50°). Leave the jars to cool in the switched-off oven to prevent damage.
Step 4: Melt the wax
Now comes the exciting part: wax for candles. Fill approx. 1.5 tealight jars with wax pastilles in a melting ladle or melting pot. Optionally, you can add candle drops to vary the color of the wax. Melt the wax slowly at low temperatures between 60 and 70 °C. do not exceed this temperature to maintain the quality of the wax.
Step 5: Fill the wick and wax
Dip the metal base of the wick briefly into the melted wax and then place it in the middle of the jar. Then fill the jar with the liquid wax.
Step 6: Add the bunny ears
Cut about 40 cm of from winding wire. Using the template, shape the bunny ears by bending the wire and twisting the ends. As soon as the wax starts to solidify, carefully insert the wire into the glass for tea lights, to fix the ears in place.
Step 7: Work to finish:
Allow the wax to harden completely. Finally, cut the wick to the desired length so that the tea light can burn safely.
Now you have a lovingly designed and functional glass for tea lights with a bunny face that not only looks only wonderful, but is also homemade. It also makes a wonderful gift!
