Step 1: Prepare your workplace Protect your workplace with a handicraft mat, to work in a clean and organized manner.
Step 2: Mix the casting compound Mix Raysin and water to a creamy mixture according to the package instructions. Here is the recommended mixing ratio for Raysin White: 280 ml water + 1 kg powder = 650 ml casting slip (1 part water + 3.5 parts powder)
Step 3: Fill the molds Carefully pour the casting compound into the molds. Tap the filled mold lightly on the surface several times to release any air bubbles. After about 1 hour you can carefully remove the castings from the mold. Then leave them further to dry in the air.
Step 4: Smoothing the castings Smooth the edges of the dried castings with sandpaper. Remember to clean the casting molds thoroughly after use.
Step 5: Prepare the gilding Using a basic-brush, apply a thin layer of gold leaf priming milk to the areas you wish to gild. After approx. 20 minutes, the surface is ready for gilding for 1 to 24 hours, depending on the substrate.
Step 6: Apply leaf metal Using a synthetic brush, gently apply the leaf metal to the areas and press it on carefully. Let it dry for about 12 hours and remove excess leaf metal with the synthetic brush.
Step 7: Polish and protect Polish the gilded areas with a cloth. Finally, apply the coating varnish to protect the gilded areas from corrosion.
Tip: Fixing candles If your pillar candle is too large in diameter, you can adjust it with a candle sharpener. To hold the candle firmly in place, place an adhesive wax plate in the base of the casting.
