Why glass engraving?
glass engraving is a great way to add something special to everyday objects. Whether you want to upgrade old glasses or spice up new glassware, the possibilities are endless. And the best thing about it: all you need is a complete engraving set that contains everything you need to get started.
Step-by-step instructions: Here's how it works
Step 1: Preparation
Wash the glass thoroughly to make sure it is free of dirt and grease. Choose your pattern and print it out, preferably in white on black Paper - this makes the lines and structures easier to see. Attach the Paper to the back of your glassware.
Step 2: Securing the pattern
To prevent the Paper from slipping during engraving, fill the inside of the glass with absorbent cotton, a cloth or kitchen roll. This precaution prevents unintentional slipping and ensures precise work.
Step 3: The start of the engraving
Take the thin diamond-engraving pen and carefully begin to engrave the pattern. It is important not to apply too much pressure, as thin glass can break if too much pressure is applied. Wipe away the glass dust with a soft cloth in between to maintain a clear view.
Step 4: Reinforcing the engravings
After you have drawn the base lines, you can strengthen the patterns with a thicker engraving pen. This technique gives the engraving depth and clarity and reduces the risk of slipping.
Step 5: Finishing touches
Hold a black cloth or Paper against the glass from behind to better recognize small irregularities and touch them up if necessary. Finally, wash the glass thoroughly to remove any glass dust residue.
